MP-5 is a short peptide composed of five amino acids, originally isolated from myelopidum—a former Russian drug derived from bone marrow peptides—and may also be present in Bonomarlot. MP-5 selectively binds to specific receptors on CD4⁺ T-cells, as confirmed by radiolabeled fluorescence studies. Notably, its binding affinity increases by 20–30% under immunosuppressed conditions, indicating a preference for targeting compromised immune cells.

Functionally, MP-5 counteracts the immunosuppressive effects of both the measles virus and tumors. It operates at significantly lower doses than MP-2, suggesting greater potency. Mechanistically, MP-5 restores the expression of IL-2 and IL-2 receptors (IL-2R) in infected T-cells, thereby reactivating T-cell function and promoting their proliferation. Unlike recombinant IL-2 therapy, which is associated with considerable toxicity, MP-5 demonstrates no toxicity.
